Pre-build domain check

Check Domain Availability for Your Brand Name

See whether your preferred .com and .net are available before you build a product or a company around a name. Manual checks are always free. If either is taken, you can compare direction-aware alternatives instead of starting the brief over.

This is a pre-build check, not a registrar, not a price comparison, not a registration handoff. For the broader online-identity picture, see the brand name checker.

What this checker verifies

The check, the gate, and the limit.

The registerability gate

A name is "registerable" only when both .com and .net are available. This is the only gate nameaha enforces.

Refer to the registerable brand name definition for the full rationale.

Optional signal TLDs

nameaha also reports the open/closed state of these signal TLDs alongside the gate: .ai, .io, .app, .co, .dev, .xyz, .tech, .cloud, .page, .shop, .studio, .so.

Signals are not part of the gate. They are reported because they sometimes matter for a brand's positioning, not because nameaha checks every TLD.

What nameaha does not check

nameaha does not check every TLD, does not report prices, does not compare registrars, and does not guarantee that an "available" result can be registered a moment later. It is a pre-build signal, not a registration transaction.

What "available" actually means

Three honest limits of a domain check.

1. A snapshot, not a reservation

"Available" reflects the state of the public DNS at the moment the check ran. Anyone, including you, can register the domain through any accredited registrar the moment after. nameaha does not hold, queue, or reserve the name on your behalf.

2. Not a guarantee of successful registration

Registrar systems, premium-name pricing, reserved lists, and registry policies can all prevent a successful purchase even when the public check shows the domain as open. The check is a strong signal, not a transaction.

3. Not trademark or legal clearance

An unregistered domain is not a green light. The same label can be a registered trademark, a protected company name, or a famous mark. Use the USPTO trademark search and your local company registry for the legal layer. See the brand name checker for the wider picture.

If the preferred domain is taken

Three honest options, in this order.

  1. 01

    Generate direction-aware alternatives

nameaha's generation flow produces 8–12 candidates that preserve the tone, length, and brand intent of your original name. Re-check the gate on each candidate rather than the original.

  2. 02

Look at the signal TLDs with care

A .com being taken is not the same as the brand being unusable. .ai, .io, .co and .dev are real alternatives for some products. They are signals, not replacements for the gate. Be explicit with your audience if you choose a non-.com primary domain.

  3. 03

    Acquire or rename, deliberately

If the name is worth buying, contact the current registrant via the registrar's WHOIS-listed contact. Expect a premium price and verify the legal status independently. If you cannot acquire it, do not assume an alternative you have not actually checked is open.

A domain is one layer of a brand identity

Domain ↔ handles ↔ name quality.

A .com being available is a necessary pre-build signal, not a complete decision. The same candidate also needs to make sense as a social handle, a logo wordmark, a spoken phrase, and (separately) a legal entity. The brand name checker walks through those layers.

Frequently asked questions

Questions specific to the domain check.

How do I check whether a domain is available?

+

Open the nameaha app, switch to the "I have a name" mode, and submit the candidate. The check runs against the .com and .net gate and the documented set of signal TLDs. Results stream as each TLD resolves. Manual checks do not use credits.

Which domain extensions does nameaha check?

+

The registerability gate is .com + .net. Alongside the gate, nameaha reports the open/closed state of these signal TLDs: .ai, .io, .app, .co, .dev, .xyz, .tech, .cloud, .page, .shop, .studio, .so. nameaha does not check every TLD.

Can an available domain become unavailable?

+

Yes, immediately. Anyone can register an open domain through any accredited registrar at any time. Treat the check as a strong signal, not a reservation, and register through a registrar promptly once you have decided.

Does an available domain mean the brand name is legally clear?

+

No. An unregistered domain only means no one has registered that exact label as a domain. The same label can still be a registered trademark, a protected company name, or a famous mark. Run an independent trademark search and consult a qualified professional before you commit. The brand name checker describes the layers.

Run the check on a name you're considering.

Manual domain checks are always free. If you want direction-aware alternatives after, nameaha's generation flow can pick up from your existing seed.
