Part of Find a Startup Name You Can Own. Users search for available domains; we define a precise gate so billing and expectations stay honest.
Definition
A registerable AI brand name (nameaha standard) is a candidate where both of the following are available at check time:
- .com
- .net
If either is taken, the name is unavailable for billing purposes — still useful to see, still free in AI results, not charged as a credit.
Examples (illustrative)
- metricly — .com available, .net available → registerable → 1 credit if delivered by nameaha AI
- shipcharts — .com taken, .net available → unavailable → shown free
- saaspulse — both taken → unavailable → shown free
.ai / .io / .co may look “cool” and still fail the registerable gate. They are optional signals, not the credit rule. Details on pricing.
Domain available ≠ trademark clear
Registries answer whether a string can be registered as a domain. Trademark systems answer whether you can use a mark in commerce. A free .com can still collide with an existing brand. This page is not legal advice — screen trademarks before you print stickers.
Why we say “you can own” in search, “registerable” in product
“Registerable” is rare in search volume but precise. “Startup name you can own” / “available .com” matches how founders talk. We use both: market language for discovery, registerable for the standard. Related: Availability-First Naming and the ChatGPT taken loop.
